Beverly Police Urge Community Members to Take 2024 Civil Service Test

BEVERLY — The Beverly Police Department would like to urge anyone in the community who is interested in a career in law enforcement to sign up for the 2024 Civil Service Test, which will be offered early next year.

Beverly Police offer rewarding careers, great pay and benefits to those who qualify for police work via the Massachusetts Civil Service Test, which will be offered early next year. Signups are from now until Jan. 16.

The Civil Service exam is held annually to establish a list of eligible candidates for entry-level police officer vacancies in municipal departments and MBTA Transit Police. The Beverly Police Department is a Massachusetts Civil Service department, therefore, anyone interested in becoming an officer with the department is required to take the written exam.

The exam consists of three aspects: the Written Ability Test, Work Styles Questionnaire and Life Experience Survey. The tests gauge cognitive abilities and skills, character attributes and experiences that will contribute to the prospective success of a police officer candidate. Candidates who receive a passing score of 70 on the written exam are then placed on the eligible list.

Though candidates’ scores are good for two years, the Civil Service exam can be taken annually. If candidates choose to take the exam annually, their most recent test score will be used for ranking on the eligible list.

“Law enforcement is a challenging but extremely rewarding career, and we need new candidates for positions more than ever, so I strongly encourage anyone in the community who is interested in law enforcement as a possible career to take their first step and sign up for the Civil Service Test,” said Chief John LeLacheur.
