Traffic Department
A Message from the Traffic
Sergeant
The Beverly Police Traffic Department is made up of a Sergeant who heads the department, one officer who works the day shift and two 4pm to 12am shifts enforcing traffic laws, one officer who does traffic enforcement and parking meter enforcement/maintenance, and four civilian meter enforcement officers.
The primary duty of the traffic department is to reduce motor vehicle accidents by enforcing the various Massachusetts motor vehicle laws and City of Beverly ordinances. The traffic department investigates all fatal and serious motor vehicle accidents and conducts non-criminal motor vehicle hearings with the Salem District Court.
The traffic department is responsible for meter enforcement, repair and collection of monies from these meters in the downtown areas, which assures businesses that there is a turnover of vehicles so customers can park and shop downtown.
The Beverly traffic division coordinates traffic enforcement initiatives with funding provided by The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS). These efforts allow for additional patrol coverage in the area of traffic enforcement at peak times throughout the year. Phases of the program include "Click it or Ticket", "Road Respect", and "Over the Limit, Under Arrest".
The Beverly Police Department also currently has two certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. In a combined effort with EOPSS this program serves as a valuable tool to the citizens of our city in the protection of our future generation.
Sincerely,
Sergeant William Page
