Rantoul Street Motor Vehicle Stop Leads to Firearms Charges

On March 13, 2013 at approximately 6:25pm Officers Panjwani and Nolan were patrolling a Rantoul Street parking lot known for high incidents of criminal activity. Officers conducted a random query of a vehicle with New Hampshire license plates, and found the owner to have a suspended license. A traffic stop was conducted, and the registered owner Christopher Ortiz 34 of E. Hampstead New Hampshire was placed into custody for operating after license suspension. During an inventory search of the vehicle a .45 caliber handgun and various rounds of ammunition were recovered from inside the center console and trunk of the vehicle. A passenger in the vehicle, Jacob Martinez 33 of Salem, was also arrested on outstanding warrants. Ortiz was additionally charged with carrying a firearm without a license to carry and possession of ammunition without a license to carry or F.I.D. Card. Assisting in the arrest and investigation were Officers Mike Flynn and Mike Boccuzzi.
