Traffic Stop Leads to Distribution Charges, Recovery of Marijuana, Hashish
10/30/13: The Beverly Police Department charged Michael Towey 53, of 350 Cabot Street Beverly with possession with intent to distribute Class D Marijuana, Class C Hashish, and speeding following a traffic stop in the area of Bridge Street near Livingstone Avenue. Officer Thomas Nolan was on routine patrol on Bridge Street when he observed a Chevy Pickup travelling at a high rate of speed. Officer Nolan conducted a traffic stop, and identified the operator as Towey. Upon approaching the vehicle, Officer Nolan’s attention was drawn to a strong odor of raw marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Following a search of the vehicle Officers recovered significant amounts of marijuana, and hashish hidden in what are described as single shot floatable flare keyrings primarily used by boaters. Towey was transported to the station and booked without further incident. Assisting in the arrest was Officer Brian Long.
